PPF / Clear Bra Do’s and Don’ts
1. DON’T TOUCH THE CAR PAINT PROTECTION FILM AFTER INSTALLATION
It may take several days for the automotive paint protection film to settle and cure. Try to avoid touching the film for about a week after installation. Don’t worry if you notice some bubbling during that period; it should disappear once the curing process is complete.
Keep in mind that low temperatures and high humidity could delay the curing process, impacting the paint protection film benefits.
2. DON’T WASH YOUR CAR AFTER INSTALLATION
When you have applied automotive paint protection using a car paint protection film, it's crucial to let it settle and cure without washing your vehicle. Ideally, avoid driving it during this time. However, if you must drive, take care to minimize pressure on the coating to ensure you reap all the paint protection film benefits and avoid issues with the curing process.
3. BE SMART ABOUT CLEANING
After installing your car paint protection film, it's best to avoid commercial car washes altogether. While it may be challenging to give them up, doing so will contribute to the longevity of your automotive paint protection. If you must visit a car wash, do so less frequently and take care not to use a pressure washer near the edges of the film.
To maintain your paint protection film, apply car wash soap using a clean microfiber mitt. For spots that are hard to clean, soak them in soap for several minutes. For extra tough residues, consider using 99% isopropyl alcohol or lacquer thinner. Make sure to dry the coating thoroughly with a microfiber towel after washing.
Avoid using brushes, terry cloth, or paper products, as these can dull the surface of your paint protection film or even cause damage. Remove dead bugs and dirt droppings promptly, as they can leave permanent stains on the film. Pay special attention to the film’s edges where dirt tends to build up, and always steer clear of any abrasive materials to maintain the integrity and benefits of your paint protection film.
4. INVEST IN HIGH-QUALITY CLEANING PRODUCTS
When caring for your automotive paint protection, it’s crucial to avoid using low-quality car wash soap, as it may contain harsh chemicals that could damage the car paint protection film or dull its coating. Opt for shampoos that include lubrication additives for better results.
Additionally, when purchasing a microfiber mitt, ensure it’s specifically designed for auto care to maintain the integrity of your paint protection film.
If you choose to wax the film, be cautious and select a product that doesn’t contain Naphtha or Kerosene in concentrations over 5%. It’s also wise to steer clear of waxes with dyes, as preserving the film is key to enjoying the many paint protection film benefits.
PPF & Clear Bra Do’s & Don’ts (0-14 days After Installation)
Do not push or touch air bubbles or moisture beneath the automotive paint protection film. They may take up to 14 days to fully dry and disappear. Never pick at the car paint protection film, as this could compromise the installation and/or adhesive. Avoid unnecessary water exposure, extreme heat, long trips, or car washing for at least 14 days. The less the vehicle is used for these 2 weeks—preferably left untouched—the better it will be for the paint protection film benefits.
PPF/ClearBra Standard Ongoing Maintenance (15 days & Beyond):
If washing a vehicle with PPF / Clear Bra using a pressure washer, keep the nozzle at least 18″ from the surface. NEVER use a pressure washer to clean PPF/Clear Bra edges. If dirty, GENTLY use a soft wash mitt to clean the edges. Maintain a Consistent Vehicle Wash Schedule (e.g., once every 2 weeks for daily drivers) to ensure the longevity and effectiveness of your automotive paint protection.
